Yes. Passe is free to use, with no account, no sign-up, and no paid tier to upgrade to.

No. There is no Passe server that receives your captures. Screenshots, callouts and notes are held in your own browser — the images in IndexedDB, the document in localStorage — and never leave your device. The only third-party requests are to Google's font CDN, which serves the typefaces and receives no Passe content.

Yes. Passe installs as a progressive web app, and once it has loaded once it keeps working with no connection at all.

Screenshots and other images, PDFs, and SVGs. A PDF is rasterized page by page, so a multi-page document arrives as a multi-shot board you can mark up — up to the first 30 pages, so a very long PDF opens truncated rather than locking up the tab. Passe tells you how many of the document's pages it opened.

An annotated PNG, SVG or PDF, a per-shot ZIP for multi-shot boards, and a markdown checklist that pairs each numbered callout with its note — so a reviewer's marks arrive as a list of tasks rather than a picture someone has to transcribe.

Usually. Exported PNGs, PDFs and SVGs carry their editable scene, so re-opening one in Passe restores the callouts instead of flattening them. Two size limits apply: a single image whose baked data exceeds 20 MiB is dropped from the embedded scene, and a whole board whose scene exceeds 32 MiB is dropped entirely. Either way the file is still a valid PNG, PDF or SVG to share — it just will not re-open with its callouts intact.
